13 VS. 347
That's the difference between now and January. That's how much better things have gotten.
During the Iraq elections last January there were 347 terrorist attacks on voters and polling places. Today there were 13.
I heard this on FOX. I haven't watched the other networks but it will be interesting to see if they report something this signifigant as widely as they do yet another single insignifigant, albeit tragic, car bombing.
The liberals are upset today. They discovered once again the Iraqi people agree with Bush: That their freedom is worth fighting and dying for. And they proved it by risking death to make a statement. They proved it by creating a remarkable Constitution in ten months -- when it took us years.
The Iraqi people are our allies in the War on Terror. And judging by their grit, restraint in the face of violence for a bigger cause, and bravery, we are lucky to have them.
Sorry, liberals, no Civil War here. Move on. Nothing to see. Maybe elsewhere you can propagandize on behalf of mass murderers to hurt the Bush administration, but not in Iraq. Not in Iraq.
UPDATE: Welcome Instapundit readers. Thanks much Glenn.

Bravery on behalf of freedom cannot be overestimated in importance. Nor are there any substitutes.
Only the jaded, alienated, Bush deranged can miss the salience of this storyline.

The most important implication of this is that many of the typically murderous groups (including those in the Western wild lands) instructed their adherents to hold attacks on the day of the election... and to vote!
The know that their best chance to gain control is now through the political process--that's a BIG step forward.

A great day for the Iraqi people and for the cause of freedom.

Insurgents attacked five of Baghdad's 1,200 polling stations, wounding seven voters, but there were no suicide bombings or other major attacks. Four Iraqi soldiers were reported killed by attacks far from polling sites — compared to the more than 100 attacks that hit January parliamentary elections, killing more than 40 people.
About 250 of the country's 6,100 polling stations, mostly in the north and west, did not open because of technical or security problems, elections officials said.

A massive security clampdown prevented any serious insurgent attacks on voting day, with only scattered strikes reported around the country after months of Sunni Arab militant bloodshed that has killed thousands.

Hats off to the Iraqui people for voting their choices. Once the freedom ball starts rolling, the terrorists and the liberals will never be able to stop it.
