Raid on Entebbe anniversary
So today is the 30th anniversary of Operation Entebbe, the gutsy rescue of hostages by Israeli commandos in a dramatic stand against terrorism. It's also the anniversary of the only Israeli military death in the raid, Col. Yoni Netanyahu, brother of Bibi, who has done his part to fight terror as well.
And as I read the story of the rescue operation, I wonder if the U.S. would be ballsy enough to attempt such a rescue today, or would we be too hamstringed by NYT scrutiny or too scared of being tsk-tsk'd by the U.N.? Considering recent lopsided prisoner exchanges, I wonder if Israel would do it again? We're all waiting with bated breath to see what Ehud Olmert is going to do about Cpl. Gilad Shalit. Just say no to a prisoner exchange...
