Kerry: Manna From Heaven

Images_77 Kerry takes the bait and suddenly Democrats are going to be forced to either condemn the truculent Senator from Mass., or duck and hide. Neither of which are exactly helpful. If the Harold Fords and Jim Webbs condemn Kerry they're gonna pique the Daily Kos crowd. If they duck, they're gonna be suspect with any conservative independent fence-sitters.

Boy, Kerry took the bait. He says something incredibly dumb off the cuff, the White House salivates  hoping and praying they can get him angry and into obstinate fightin' mode -- when he's the least attractive -- and lo and behold he bites. Because it's always about John Kerry. Everything's about John Kerry.

Watching his news conference today I was scared to death he would say, "You know what? I'm exhausted from being on the campaign trail and said something I didn't mean. I tried to be witty but said something offensive instead and I'm embarrassed by it and I apologize. Anyone who remembers my Daily Show appearance knows I'm not the quickest wit in the world and I'm sorry this reminder came out in a way that might've offended those brave selfless heroes and their families who sacrifice so much for us. I ask them to accept my apology. They are our best and brightest and I regret my poor choice of words might've conveyed anything different."

And then it's all over. It all goes away. Instead we have days of hay to make that may even take us into the Sunday shows. *tee hee*

But it's the position he's put Democrat candidates in that matters. His idiotic ego put these candidates in a no-win situation. And if the Dems lose tuesday, Kerry will never ever recover.

Is Michal J. Fox's Career Over?

Fox has staked his integrity and reputation on the fact that he is no longer able to control his ParkiImages_76nsons. As if to affirm he wasn't faking his symptoms in those campaign commercials he appeared with George Stephanopolous Sunday still suffering them.

Were he to do another guest appearance appearing healthy again, like his recent one on Boston Legal, people will rightfully ask, "Why can he control his symptoms to shoot a television show, but not a commercial?"

It's possible he'll be asked to guest star in his present condition, but it's not the same. I don't know if Fox was faking or not. But Limbaugh was right to question it and Fox deserves all the criticism he's received for lying about the Republican position on the stem cell issue and not fully understanding what he was cheerleading for.

However, if he has been intentionally presenting himself in the worst possible condition to further his causes, he's effectively ended his career. Think about it: He'll never be able to be Michael J. Fox on screen again. He'll only be able to appear as Michael J. Fox Parkinsons Sufferer. Big difference.

Either way, God bless him and his family.

NRO: Spooky symposium!

Nrologo_24So K-Lo over at National Review Online asked the following question for today's expert symposium: "What’s the scariest thing that comes to mind when you think about the prospect of a Democratic majority in the House and or the Senate?"

My answer:

I can think of one thing slightly scarier than Howard Dean donning a French -maid costume, and that would be the post-Halloween death of perspective in policymaking that would come with a Democratic majority. The Dems have been making inroads with the voters lately by whipping out the Iraq boogeyman, painting it as a no-win situation that's winning al Qaeda converts by the thousands and losing scores of American lives. While every life lost is tragic, there have been slightly more than 2,800 U.S. deaths in Iraq, a conflict that is now several months longer than the Korean War, which had an American death toll of more than 36,000 (and, no, peacenik marchers, the GOP is not aiming for that). And if the Democrats think the price has been too high for ousting Saddam, what price would be too high for winning the War on Terror? Where would we stop and withdraw, at what cost? Of course, that depends on if you're asking a lefty who believes there is/should be a War on Terror — and those blinders alone are scary enough.

Read answers from majority leader John Boehner and others here.

Night of the living commies!

Truly frightening on this Halloween!

Is it the ghost of Fidel coming down the hall, much like the hospital scenes in "Halloween II"? Or is he really the living dead (plumping his coffers with a track-suit endorsement deal)?

O'Reilly Vs. Letterman

While a lot of lefties are crowing about how Letterman cleaned O'Reilly's clock on his show friday, being no fan of O'Reilly, I'd have to diagree.

Letterman was a jerk. He filibustered, insulted, and dodged reasonable questions. For a man to say he idolizes Johnny Carson and then to behave with none of Johnny's class said a lot.

You can watch for yourself and it's pretty clear O'Reilly handled himself much better, got a pretty positive crowd response, and won the Class War by not insulting a host who should've had the judgement not to invite a guest on that would make him behave so poorly.

Is Hugo keeping an eye on the Vix?

Chavezmap_1I can only hope so, because I declared here last New Year's that I wanted Chavez to call me a "capitalist tart" by the end of the year, and time's a tickin'. And my super Big Brother-like blog site tracking program has showed many recent visits by a federal government address in Caracas. But note to the Venezuelan lackeys -- try checking out the entire category devoted to Chavez & other South American Marxist goobers instead of focusing so heavily on the foreign relations category. I only dropped Hugo-bashing posts in there before I created the goober category.

I'll take the two-cave junior suite

Binladen2_4The UK's Sun reports:

"OSAMA Bin Laden’s Tora Bora caves hideout is being converted — into a £5.3million HOLIDAY RESORT.

Hotels and restaurants are being constructed on mountains overlooking the al-Qaeda chief’s secret refuge in Afghanistan.

Former warlord Gul Agha Sherazi, now a local governor, said: 'Tora Bora is world famous — but we want it to be known for tourism, not terrorism.

'It was known as a picnic spot long before anyone had heard of Osama Bin Laden.'

Bin Laden hid there in 2001 after the Taliban government was ousted. He fled after a US bombing blitz.

Two journalists were killed there this month. But Mr Sherazi said: 'Tora Bora is 100 per cent safe.'”

Warlords bitten by the capitalism bug!

For the record, there are now four Afghanistan hotels listed on Yahoo! Travel, all rated highly and only $125 a night for the 4 1/2 star digs. I think Travelocity is a great fit for Afghanistan travel -- after all, the Roaming Gnome has a nice holy beard.

Oh, the horror of Hollywood!

SawiiiHorror works. Somewhere along the road the Hollywood bean counters should have realized this, but continue to pour money into TV remakes, wanton Oscar gold, projects for washed-up comedians and countless sequels. Horror is still seen as a fringe genre, getting the low budgets and names from the B-list. But people like a good scare, and if they get a good scare they'll keep coming back for the scary sequels.

Take the "Saw" franchise. The first movie, with a most excellent twist at the end, had a $1.2 million production budget, with the biggest names being Cary Elwes of "Princess Bride" ("As you wish!") fame and Danny Glover, who nowadays just annoys everyone at froot-loopy left-wing protests. It grossed $55 million domestically and $102 million total worldwide. Score one for Lions Gate.

"Saw II," which also had a clever twist and former New Kid on the Block Donnie Wahlberg off the B-list, had a $4 million production budget and grossed $87 million domestically -- and a worlwide total of $144 million. It had an opening weekend of $31 million. Score another for Lions Gate, howling all the way to the bank.

The third "Saw," opening this weekend, still didn't get any stars and capitalized on a Halloween debut. On Friday alone, it reaped $14 million, an average of $4,421 per theater. Its closest competitor is "The Prestige," with $2.9 million on Friday and averaging $1,282 per theater, according to Box Office Mojo. Even "The Grudge 2," which didn't bring back Sarah Michelle Gellar as the lead and with a comparably chunky production budget of $20 million, has scored $33 million in two weeks of domestic release.

So make more good scary movies!!

Quote of the day

MillskarmalHeather Mills' ex-husband Alfie Karmal, telling The Sun that Mills beat him up and that he'd be willing to back up Paul McCartney in their divorce row:

"We’ve both been tarred and Heathered."

(NOTE: That is the WORST wedding dress EVER. EVER.)

Incidentally, Mills was voted the world's biggest bitch in a Sun poll, getting seven times as many votes as Naomi Campbell with 87 percent!
