Bridget's Politico debut!!

122006dc15_2

If you've been on Capitol Hill lately, you may have noticed a new paper floating around: The Politico. It's fresh, it's hip, it has more talent than the audition reels for "American Idol." Run, run, run past Jihad Jane and pick up a copy today! Or, if you're not a D.C. dweller, you can check out the Politico online, where I chat with David Zucker and others about the role of Jews in the GOP vote:

"On the popular video-sharing site YouTube, one can watch stupid pet tricks, 'Jackass'-style homemade stunts, and some of the sharpest political satire around. The master of the genre -- and the brains behind 'The Naked Gun,' 'Airplane!' and other screen gems -- has been lampooning the left with 'Scary Movie'-style political activism.

Director and producer David Zucker is a Republican. And part of the Hollywood machine. And Jewish. Shirley you can't be serious!

Before the last presidential election, self-described 'Sept. 12 Republican' Zucker shot a commercial that mocked Sen. John Kerry's flip-flops. In a recent ad, an actress portraying former secretary of state Madeleine K. Albright is giving a signed basketball to Kim Jong Il (true story) as well as painting Osama bin Laden's cave, singing 'Kumbaya' with terrorists over fresh-baked cookies and mowing the lawn outside a North Korean weapons lab.

Another short compares the Iraq Study Group's recommendations to Neville Chamberlain's appeasement of Nazi Germany and features Iranian strongman Mahmoud Ahmadinejad swiping James A. Baker's wallet after shell-game (literally) negotiations. Another ad shot before the midterm elections portrayed tax-and-spend Democrats shaking every last penny out of kiddie lemonade stands and the deceased alike.

Zucker may be a trend-setter, or just part of a growing trend: the Jewish Republican. Even though the GOP gave up ground nationwide to lose the House and Senate, November's Jewish vote for the right side of the aisle held steady at 26.4 percent, according to exit polling conducted for the Republican Jewish Coalition. Jews under age 55 were more likely to vote GOP -- 30.7 percent -- compared with 23.8 percent support from voters over 55.

'The older Jews ... still think they're voting for FDR,' said Joel Strom, former president of the Republican Jewish Coalition of Los Angeles and state volunteer chairman for George W. Bush in 2000. 'Younger Jews were really influenced by Reagan ... some others remember Nixon coming to Israel's rescue.'..."

Chavez: 'I AM GOD!!!!'

Chavezevita_3A whole Assembly of sheep decided to jump off a cliff with Hugo Chavez today:

Venezuela's Congress on Wednesday granted President Hugo Chavez powers to rule by decree for 18 months as he tries to force through nationalizations key to his self-styled leftist revolution.

The vote allows anti-U.S. leader Chavez, who has been in power since 1999, to deepen state control of the economy and other sectors of public life such as defense and security.

Afternoon headlines in the anti-Chavez press were more scathing. Tal Cual splashed with 'Heil Hugo' and equated the enabling law with powers granted to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler in the 1930s. El Mundo had the headline. 'Superchavez enabled.'

The lawmakers, all loyal to Chavez after opposition parties boycotted the 2005 congressional elections, flaunted their populist credentials by taking the unusual step of holding their vote in public in a square in downtown Caracas."

And then lawmakers got their pictures taken atop donkeys painted like zebras for a dollar ... wait, that's Tijuana...

Just heard on Cavuto:

Chavez_castro_14From the "everybody's on crack" file:

"Hugo Chavez is the Nelson Mandela of Venezuela."

(insert wretching sound that sounds something like when my cat yacks up a giant hairball...)

But instead of going to prison for 27 years, Hugo's just gonna spend the next 27 years making Venezuelans wish they were in a South African klink.

Wanna blog at GOP Vixen?

Donkey_elephant_2 GOP Vixen is considering taking on another co-conspirator to contribute regular blog posts. Requirements include good spelling and grammar, utmost adherence to journalism ethics, passion for politics and a unique, edgy voice. You must also think that Hassan Nasrallah is a boob and that Jimmy Carter's mental state went off the edge and plummeted into a frozen lake.

Like most of the blogosphere, there's no pay, but co-conspirators get free BlogAds as needed (see Yasser) and get exposure on a high-traffic blog. Interested? Tell me at gopvixen@yahoo.com why you should be blogging on GOP Vixen. If we're interested, you'll be interrogated Gitmo-style until you fess up as to whether you've ever used the word "macaca."

Suicide bomber hits bakery on Holocaust remembrance day

Because Jewish bakers are such threats to Palestinians and all -- who is still daring to say these bastards pick legitimate targets? And any coincidence that Islamic Jihad picked the observance of the United Nations' International Holocaust Day, the day celebrating the liberation of Auschwitz, for their terror attack?

Haaretz is reporting that the IDF says the bombers came through the Egyptian crossing to hit the resort town of Eilat.

DEBKAfile reports that this could signal a wave of terror attacks funded by Syria and Iran. They're also reporting that sources say it could be the first joint operation incorporating the Army of Believers, a cover name for al-Qaida. More:

"... A senior Israeli officer familiar with the Israeli-Egyptian Sinai border region told DEBKAfile after the Eilat attack: 'Olmert and Peretz have missed the train. Their policy of military restraint in the face of Qassam missile attacks and a terrorist build-up has given the most violent elements free rein to get set for a fresh, well-organized assault.' Some attacks may also come from the sea.

He stressed: 'It’s no use expecting the Egyptians to secure the Sinai border. Since Israel pulled out of the Gaza Strip 15 months ago, the Egyptian-Gazan-Israeli borders are a highway for smugglers of terrorists, missiles, explosives and traffickers of every kind. The IDF is the only force capable of putting a stop to this traffic and suppressing the collaboration between Hamas, Jihad Islami, Fatah-al Aqsa Brigades and al Qaeda. Unfortunately, its hands are tied by the government.'”

GOP Vixen Oscar picks!

LittlemisssunshineSince the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild Awards have been handed out, everyone is asking who's gonna get Oscar. But we believe it's also important to note who SHOULD get the Oscar. So here, we address both:

Best Documentary Feature

Who will win: Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth"

Who should win: Who cares?? I can only imagine what "Iraq in Fragments" is about. Although I have heard "Jesus Camp" is a bit freaky.

Best Animated Film

Who will win: "Happy Feet"

Who should win: "Cars," because the little buggers' spewing exhaust pipes take out the global-warming penguins.

Best Original Screenplay

Who will win: "Babel," because it has enough globalization angst for Gore-minded voters.

Who should win: "Little Miss Sunshine" -- which, no, folks, is not some searing leftist indictment of the American middle class.

Best Adapted Screenplay

Who will win: "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation ofBorat_5 Kazakhstan," because Sacha Baron Cohen was robbed in the Best Actor category.

Who should win: "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan," because Sacha Baron Cohen was robbed in the Best Actor category. And I still have no idea how the ad-lib and reality aspect qualifies as a screenplay, but hey.

Best Supporting Actor

Who will win: Eddie Murphy. Shoulda won Best Actor for "Beverly Hills Cop" or "Coming to America" or "Trading Places"

Who should win: Category is skewed by the nomination of two hotties, Djimon Hounsou and Mark Wahlberg. But Alan Arkin was perfect as Grandpa in "Little Miss Sunshine." And if anyone is going to upset Murphy, it'll be Arkin.

Best Supporting Actress

Who will win: Jennifer Hudson. This is her revenge for being booted off "American Idol" too early.

Who should win: Abigail Breslin. "Little Miss Sunshine" actress is a breath of fresh air in a Hollywood full of "what I really want to do is direct" Dakota Fannings. In the movie, she was the only real kid in a creepy sea of Jon Benet wannabes.

Best Actor

Who will win: Forest Whitaker. He rocked.

Who should win: Forest Whitaker. Though hats off to sentimental favorite Peter O'Toole and the immensely likeable Will Smith.

Best Actress

Who will win: Helen Mirren. OK, she was good in "The Queen," but I nearly dozed off in aVolver cozy place during the royalfest.

Who should win: Penelope Cruz. I hear she's great in "Volver," but she should receive an Oscar solely for surviving a three-year relationship with Tom Cruise and not becoming a Scientologist (she dabbled but didn't cave). Nicole Kidman already received her not-seduced-by-Tom's-cult Oscar.

Best Director

Who will win: Martin Scorsese. Let's just finally give him a damn statue, Oscar voters will say.

Who should win: I guess Marty. Or Paul Greengrass (a.k.a. the Academy's token recognition of "United 93").

Best Picture

Who will win: Either "Babel" or "Little Miss Sunshine" (both Golden Globe winners; but "Sunshine" won the Producers Guild best picture honor, which is a pretty good predictor)

Who should win: "Little Miss Sunshine." When was the last time an ensemble worked that well together? I mean, except for "Borat"?

Pay close attention, Jimmy Carter

As the worst prez in U.S. history pushes the bandwagon claiming that Israel mercilessly slays Palestinian kids, open your eyes to the fact that the Palestinians are killing their own kids.

Turkey might invade Iraq

Turkey_1Because we didn't need another twist to deal with over there, right? Al-Jazeera has the scoop:

"Turkey's parliament went into secret session this week to debate sending troops to invade and occupy northern Iraq for security purposes.

More than 30,000 people have been killed in the confrontation between the Kurdish Workers Party (PKK) and the Turkish army – about 400 last year alone, according to Turkey's Human Rights Association.

Onur Oymen, the deputy chairman of the Opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), said: 'Northern Iraq is the only place in the world where a terrorist group can operate without being pursued.'

'If the Iraqis and the US are not prepared to take action over this, then we must.'

Oymen referred to bases in northern Iraq belonging to the PKK which has been fighting Turkish troops since the 1980s to try to establish a separate Kurdish state in southeastern Turkey."

For its part, the U.S. denies it's doing nothing -- in fact, we raided a refugee camp that Turkey claimed was a PKK base but found no weapons, states the story.

GOP Vixen has the first images of the invasion:

Ban: Fluent in bureaucratese

KimoonSo much for getting any sort of straight-talker or guy with chutzpah into the secretary-general post. From Ban Ki-moon's press conference in Brussels on Wednesday:

Q: What about ... the increase of US troops in Iraq?

A: On the Iraqi issues - first of all, I believe that it is important to have an inclusive political process to address all the issues. It is very unfortunate that we see many civilian casualties, and sectarian violence is continuing. We must try to help the Iraqi Government and people so that we can prevent any further civilian casualties and so that the international community also should help the Iraqi government and people, so that they can restore peace and stability, economically and politically. At the same time it would be very important for the international community to realize the urgency of establishing a sort of framework where neighbouring countries will participate. Overall, I think we need to have some comprehensive approach. The military can play also a very important role but we need some political process, as well as the international community´s continued support in this matter.

Not sure if the dance around that question was a waltz, tango or samba...

I can't wait to go to Tijuana...

... to see the newly rearmed "Lord of the Flies" police department in action:

Sombrero_10"The police department has issued about 60 slingshots to officers in the violent border city of Tijuana, where soldiers confiscated police weapons two weeks ago on allegations of collusion with drug traffickers.

Municipal police spokesman Fernando Bojorquez said Monday that the slingshots, along with bags of ballbearings, were given to officers patrolling areas of the city visited by tourists.

Tijuana's police force of 2,000 officers has been without guns since Jan. 5, but some patrol alongside armed state police."

And yes, I will be going there very soon ... stay tuned to GOP Vixen for the latest on corrupt border towns now armed with harsh language (and, hopefully soon, SuperSoakers).
