Learn as you go at the U.N.!
Did anyone else see this?
"Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday appointed a British diplomat as the U.N.'s new humanitarian chief and chose a Mexican environmentalist who was his predecessor's chief of staff to spearhead U.N. reforms.
Sir John Holmes, who served as a top adviser to two prime ministers, will replace Norway's Jan Egeland as undersecretary-general for political affairs and emergency relief coordinator.
... Holmes, who has been Britain's ambassador to France since 2001, also served in Moscow, India and Portugal and was private secretary to former prime ministers John Major in the mid-1990s and Tony Blair from 1997 to 1999. He has no direct experience in humanitarian affairs."
(Joe Blow was appointed director of surgery at Annan Memorial Hospital today. He has no direct experience in the operating room.)
Ridiculous, eh? So is appointing a guy to head global humanitarian affairs when he has no experience in humanitarian affairs!! Surely he wouldn't pick up those skills being ambassador to France, though that experience may have taught him to work 10 hours a week and torch cars.

Guess Bri never heard of on the job training.
Maybe it is those guys semesters abroad.
Is Bri missing Kofi already???

Egeland was a so-called expert who tried for years to focus on the "abuses" of the U.S. while ignoring the problems in China, Saudi Arabia, etc. I really doubt anyone from Europe could do much worse.

British Diplomat?-are not those the same guys who said no to the Irish and the Jews and yes to the Muslims.
Mexican Environmentalist is an oxymoron.

To get ahead at the UN, the major requirement is fluency in Bureaucratese, with advanced expertise in form filling and report filing.
You don't need humanitarian experience to get a gig there; after all, Cuba and Saudi are on the HRC.
