Mike Moves While Fred Doubts

Looks like Huckabee has broken into double digits in the latest Rassmusen and CNN polls. Dick Morris bet Bill O’Reilly dinner that Huckabee would break ten percent so its time for Bill to pony up. I always feel like I need a bath after watching Dick Morris but I still think he is one of the sharpest political minds out there. Morris likes Mike and I hope he is right about Huckabee because I think he is the Republican’s best chance at holding the White House.

I had high hopes for Fred Thompson but Fred is drifting ever downward in the polls. It didn’t help when Fred doubted his own candidacy. Yeah Fred, that was the sound of a thousand checkbooks slamming shut. I caught Fred on one of the Sunday shows and found it hard to watch him talk with every other word being um, er, and uh. Focus Fred focus! Nothing like the smooth talking Branch on L&O. Of course, Arthur Branch always had a scotch in his hand so will someone please get Fred a scotch!  It couldn’t hurt…..really!

Rudy is still plugging along just below 30%. Democrats have already figured him for the candidate so they have started a Rudy hating club, which elevates Rudy in my mind. When the liberal nut-flakes start trashing someone, they only tend to strengthen him amongst anyone with a brain. If the race ends up with Rudy against Hillary it will be one of the biggest mud fests we have seen in a long time. Not only do both of them have baggage to spare, they both have detractors that really hate their guts.

I was pretty 'into' Fred but as many people have said he took way too long to get 'into' it himself; if he can come across as he does in some of his podcasts, and/or as the more badass-rather-than-folksy Fred then he might still put some numbers on the board. I quite liked his new ad, probably because it did more than just go 'ANYONE BUY HILLARY' (which worked really well for the anyone but Bush crowd in 04) and because he actually made a mention of the presidential race rather than just the GOP nominee

As it stands, it might sound crap but I think he would at the very least make a very good VP

Yeah, Fred can come up with some great zingers and "informal" ads but he has not stepped up with any of the big ideas he promised. Huckabee is squarely behind the Fair Tax which is a huge change to our tax system so I tend to think he will try to really make some substantial changes if elected. You are right though, Fred would make a good VP.
