A new low for Barbara Boxer

Popebirthday

This from The Politico:

"While Pope Benedict XVI's historic visit to Washington received wall to wall coverage, Sen. Barbara Boxer briefly held up a Senate resolution welcoming the pontiff because she objected to language about how the pope values 'each and every human life.'

The measure later cleared the Senate Thursday afternoon after the sponsor of the resolution, Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kan.), dropped the reference to 'human life' because some Democrats saw it as a reference to abortion. According to Republican aides, Brownback, a devout Catholic, did not want a high profile fight over the resolution, which was adopted on a voice vote. In fact, Brownback blackberried his staff from the Pope's mass at Nationals Park to direct them to drop the references to human life.

...'There was some politics involved here, and the objectionable language has been withdrawn,' a senior Democratic Senate aide said.

Three Senate Republican aides involved in the issue say that Boxer objected to the 'life' language, which Democrats see as an implicit reference to the Catholic church's opposition to abortion."

This was the part of the original resolution they raised a fuss over:

"Whereas Pope Benedict XVI has spoken out for the weak and vulnerable, witnessing to the value of each and every human life;"

Wow. WOW. Unfreakin' believable. How completely cold-blooded has American politics gotten when lawmakers object to giving value to human life? "Objectionable language"??? Particularly in praising the good deeds of the pope?

In the pic, btw, Benedict is celebrating life -- his 81st birthday, to be exact. Surely that shameless celebration of human life will earn him a censure from the Boxer wing at this rate.

I don't know if this a new low for Boxer. She's been doing stuff like this for years. I sent a letter to her wen I was in high school, and she replied that my pro-life stance was violating the sanctity of female life. Scary lady.

I don't think the pope does value every human life.
For example, when the Vatican works with the US Government and the OIC (Organisation of Islamic Countries) to have any mention of condoms or needle exchange programs stricken from UN documents on how to handle AIDS in Africa, that seems indicative of not giving a damn about those human lives.

When these organisations work together to combat an epidemic by pouring funding into abstinence programs reducing the funding and application of scientifically proven methods of minimising this terrible disease then, no, I do not accept that the pope values every human life, in fact it angers me considerably; the arrogance of a man to think that just by telling people to stop screwing until they're married, that this is actually going to have any kind of positive effect whatsoever.

If he had a set of eyes, and some compassion he would compromise on this moronic no-condom stance to help save lives.
I don't care whether he is the head of one of the largest religions on the planet, it's damn-near genocidal to use his power so irresponsibly. He is no spokesman or mouthpiece nor does he have any relation to God as far as I'm concerned.

Pabst Benedict XVI is a breath of fresh air. Pope John Paul II should have been medically retired a lot longer before his death. Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger should have been appointed to the Pontiff position years ago. Pope John Paul II was literally a dying 'dead pope' on ... active duty. Love watching this 'Rotweiller' in action. He has literally made a fantastic impression in DC and NY already.
VIVE Benedict XVI!
