Mano a mano combat

Farcrios

First, Colombia kills Raul Reyes, a FARC commander and spokesman, prompting a bluster storm from Hugo Chavez and his lapdogs. Now, commander Ivan Rios (on the left, apparently at a FARC tailgate party), who oversaw Juan Valdez's coffee territory in central Colombia, is apparently dead. Or at least looking for an artificial hand:

"A top rebel leader was killed by his own chief of security, who gave Colombian troops the leader's severed hand as proof, the defense minister said Friday.

Thursday night, he said, a guerrilla known as Rojas came to the troops with Rios' severed right hand, laptop computer and ID, saying he had killed his boss three days earlier. Rojas handed himself over to the soldiers.

It was unclear what motivated the killing, but Santos said it was to 'relieve the military pressure' because the rebels were 'surrounded, without supplies and without communication.'

The U.S. State Department has a bounty of $5 million for Rios' capture, although the agency's spokesman, Kurtis Cooper, had no comment on whether the reward would be paid out in this case."

I imagine this like the case of Douglas Neidermeyer in "Animal House," killed in Vietnam by his own troops...

Chavez itching for South American war

hugoap.jpgLet me mince no words: There is no world leader thirsting for war with anyone as badly as Hugo Chavez.

Here's the deal: Leftist Ecuadoran leader Rafael Correa didn't seem as upset the day before yesterday about Colombia reaching inside Ecuadoran territory to strike at a camp of FARC leaders, making their most important kill yet in taking out commander and spokesman Raul Reyes, one of seven members of the guerrilla group's hierarchy.

But in the past several weeks, Chavez, a longtime supporter of FARC, has been doing the "hostage negotiation" dance with FARC in an effort to publicly usurp the power and influence of Colombian President Alvaro Uribe (who, it has to be said, has really cleaned up the country and is Satan to Hugo because he has a good relationship with the U.S.). The slaying of Reyes puts Uribe firmly back in control and probably wounds the FARC -- a longtime thorn in the side of Colombian stability -- to the point of no return.

Chavez's message now: He's has Russian arms and he wants to use 'em. He licks his lips at the thought of drawing the U.S. into a South American conflict, and is trying to stoke the fires by saying that the U.S. jointly killed Reyes. He's gotten lapdog Correa as riled up as he needs to be.

More from the AP:

"...Chavez on Sunday promised Venezuela would respond militarily if Colombia violates its border, where he ordered tanks as well as thousands of troops. He also ordered closed Venezuela's embassy in Bogota.

Ecuador's president, Rafael Correa, called for the troop deployment while also withdrawing his government's ambassador from Bogota and expelling Colombia's top diplomat.

'Mr. Defense Minister, move 10 battalions to the border with Colombia for me, immediately — tank battalions. Deploy the air force,' Chavez said during his weekly TV and radio program. 'We don't want war, but we aren't going to permit the U.S. empire, which is the master (of Colombia) ... to come divide us.'

Correa said Colombia deliberately carried out the strike beyond its borders. He said the rebels were 'bombed and massacred as they slept, using precision technology.'"

Precision technology? What's wrong with that? It meant that innocents weren't killed. Oh, that's right... you refuse to believe that the FARC are terrorists...

"'This could be the start of a war in South America,' Chavez said. He warned Uribe: 'If it occurs to you to do this in Venezuela, President Uribe, I'll send some Sukhois' — Russian warplanes recently bought by Venezuela."

The thing about Chavez is that Colombia may not even have to step one inch inside Venezuela's border for him to find "cause" to start a war. And never mind that he took his helicopters inside Colombia for his FARC kaffeeklatsch hostage retrieval.

Is this Cuba? Nope, it's Cyprus!

CypruscommieThe disputed island has elected a proud Marxist as its next president, making Communist Party leader Demetris Christofias the only (confessed) communist leader in the EU. The Communist party on Cyprus, the AKEL, features a bust of Lenin in its HQ, and Christofias loves him some classic Che T-shirts. It would probably be difficult enough to tell his rabid supporters that in their Che worship they're bowing to a murderer, but even check out the sleeve on the guy pictured: it says "CCCP." What heroes they have!! Hand over your computer and get in line for toilet paper now!!

Don't let la puerta hit you in las nalgas on the way out, Fidel!

CartercastroAs Fidel Castro steps down to let his turd brother take the permanent reins in Cuba, there are bound to be a number of apologists for the tyrant coming out of the woodwork. Just refer them to Cuba Archive, an ongoing project that is compiling documentation online of the victims of Castro's 49 iron-fisted years:

"To date, over 9,000 records have been entered into the electronic system, which grows as additional cases are entered and research and outreach efforts expand.

...The state led by Fidel and Raúl Castro emerges responsible for thousands of firing squad executions and extrajudicial killings. The archive reports over one thousand deaths in prisons, police stations, or State Security offices, as well as dozens of civilians murdered while trying to escape by sea or seeking asylum in foreign embassies and at the U.S. Naval Base at Guantánamo. Pregnant women assassinated in political prisons and religious leaders and minors executed by firing squad are part of the tragic record. Nine extrajudicial killings and five deaths of prisoners for lack of medical attention are recorded for 2007."

Hugo Chavez's FARC farce

HugocLights! Camera! Communists! Oliver Stone! Hugo's FARC farce has got it all. I write about it today for Pajamas Media:

"Autocrat, totalitarian, Bolivarian reactionary. Now Hugo Chavez aims to add another descriptor to his storied list of accomplishments:

Hugo Chavez, action hero commando!

(Chuck Norris Unapproved!)

Clad in fatigues and a red beret, Chavez sent two helicopters to Villavicencio, Colombia, to fetch three hostages of the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia. To make the weekend’s mission truly a leftist epic, Oliver Stone and his cameras went along for the ride. 'There are some good Americans,' Stone told Chavez, purportedly referring to himself. 'That’s why I’m here.'

After all, an action hero has to have a hot director — in addition to Chavez’s notorious supporting cast of Hollywood sheeple from Danny Glover to Sean Penn and Kevin Spacey.

...Chavez hailed his hostage-rescue mission as 'a first step to open a door toward the path for Colombia to have peace soon.' Baloney. It’s actually a first step to reasserting his influence after his grand election failure while simultaneously trying to make U.S. ally and Colombian President Alvaro Uribe look useless. According to Bloomberg, the Chavez government accredited more than 300 reporters beyond those normally in Venezuela for the event. After all, the revolutionary action hero needs Clark Kent to spread the word.

But Chavez’s key ulterior motive likely rests with extending a hand to the leftist guerrillas who could serve his cause for continental domination..."

Another dent in the Bolivarian armor

This has become a bonafide hit in Venezuela -- Gucci- and Louis Vuitton-clad Interior Minister Pedro Carreno slamming capitalism and singing the praises of socialism... until a journalist asks him to then explain his duds:

"'I don't, uh ... I ... of course,' stammered Carreno on Tuesday before regaining his composure. 'It's not contradictory because I would like Venezuela to produce all this so I could buy stuff produced here instead of 95 percent of what we consume being imported.'"

The Ex Hex

Hugoface What is worse than losing your bid to become dictator for life? Losing your bid while your ex-wife works for the opposition. That’s gonna leave a mark on old Hugo’s ego. Whatever you are paying in alimony Hugo, it’s apparently not enough.

After the loss, Hugo whimpered that his ex is keeping him from seeing his kid. Yeah, right Hugo. You run the country but the ex keeps you from seeing your kid. Better up that child support while your at it el Hefe.

Hugo also tried to play the victim by rebuking his own supporters by calling them a bunch of lazy cowards for not voting for his power grab. Hugo also claimed that a vote against him was a vote for Bush. Soooo, not only did Hugo get beat by the ex, according to him, Bush the devil also beat him. I suspect Hugo was just trying to make himself feel better because most men would rather be beaten by the devil than the ex. Then again, I know quite a few guys that would tell you they couldn’t distinguish the devil from the ex. It’s just good to see Hugo get thumped.

Hugo's next move: Kill the media

Chavezmoscow

Check out my piece on Pajamas Media today about the next steps in the Hugo Chavez playbook:

"After he spends time pondering his referendum defeat – and, of course, all of the conspiracies that led to it, considering he’s more obsessed with 'the empire' than a 'Star Wars' groupie – Chavez will slowly, surely, take what he originally wanted by force. He will justify this by calling his 2006 re-election a mandate for his 'Bolivarian revolution,' referendum or no referendum.

'We should be alert to the possibility that these changes will be imposed through a different route than the constitution,' former Chavez ally and ex-Defense Minister Raul Isaias Baduel said on Globovision after the results were announced.

Who will be the first victim of Chavez’s tighter, crushing grip on the nation? The entity that, in his mind, orchestrated Sunday’s defeat: the independent media.

In an ominous sign of things to come, Chavez swore Friday that he would shut down Globovision – the last independent TV station in Venezuela since Chavez shuttered Radio Caracas TV earlier this year, and the station that has been in his crosshairs ever since – and kick foreign journalists out of the country if they 'break rules' in covering the referendum. This is Hugo-speak for any coverage that may not have presented Chavez’s slate of 69 'reforms' in anything less than a rosy red, socialism-loving light..."

The headline, by the way, may be truer than one might imagine. Consider the editor of an opposition Web site whose car mysteriously exploded last summer...

Hugo Gets Yippy

Hugoface Looks like Castro’s puppy is getting awful yippy right before his big power grab. Hugo Chavez is throwing around a lot of threats these days. His big threat is to cut off oil to the U.S. I say go ahead Hugo; it’s a loser for you in the long run. Not only would that deprive you of a lot of money, it just encourages us to find other power sources.

My favorite threat is to nationalize Spanish banks if King Juan Carlos does not apologize for the public bitch slapping he gave Hugo when he told him to shut up. That remark quickly became one of the most popular ring tones, making Hugo a public laughing stock. Threatening to steal a couple of banks for the slight makes Hugo looks like a whiney baby. King Carlos should tell Hugo to pound sand and tell him he will seize all Venezuelan assets in his country if Hugo touches one peso of those banks. Not seize, I mean "nationalize". I would love to see what moronic gesture Hugo would do when served up a dose of his own medicine.

Seriously, Hugo is a complete buffoon. Normally guys like this disintegrate due to their own stupidity but Venezuela is a little different, they have oil. Without oil, Hugo would drive the country to ruin pretty quickly and get booted. With oil, Hugo can last a long time because he controls a lot of money. I pray the people of Venezuela vote down his power grab so they and the world are not subject to the idiocy of this man for the next 30 years.
